The first councils have now published details of how much they plan to charge developers under the new Community Infrastructure Levy. Flemmich Webb investigates how and why their strategies differ.

Before last year’s election, it was widely assumed that Labour’s much heralded Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) proposals for funding infrastructure would be dropped by an incoming Tory administration. But in the end, we got a coalition, plus the surprise announcement before Christmas that the CIL would be retained.
